An industrial kitchen and a bakery are inaugurated at Meitarim Special Education School
תיאור

An industrial kitchen and a bakery were inaugurated this morning at an exciting event in Meitarim Special Education School in Holon.   The event took place in the presence of the Mayor of Holon, Motti Sasson, and with the participation of school principal Ravit Magar, officials from the Municipal Education Administration, parents, teachers, and students.

A particularly moving part of the ceremony was the performance by Eyal Elbaz, 14, who played the guitar and sang Hanan Ben Ari’s song “Champion of the World”.  There was not a dry eye…

Meitarim School is a high school for special-needs students with complex learning difficulties, from grade 7 to age 21.  The school had an old kitchen that was used for a cooking workshop, but that no longer met the needs of the school or the requirements of the Technological Education Division of the Ministry of Education. The school has recently opened a new subject for matriculation – hotel baking, in which students learn a life-long trade, and this created the need to replace the kitchen and its equipment in order to comply  with the required standards.  The Holon Municipality took up the challenge and invested in the construction of a new industrial kitchen at the school, with modern equipment for baking cakes and pastry.  The kitchen was recently completed, and students on the hotel baking track are already enjoying using it in the course of their studies.  At a later stage, a visitors’ center is planned for the school, including a café to be run by the students.
