Many of us would want teenagers to show interest in the Holocaust, but it's obviously a challenging task. As the years pass, this task is getting more and more difficult, with fewer survivors each year and less people who can tell about the Holocaust and share their experiences and knowledge.
Gimnasia Katzir Junior high school in Holon collaborated with Bet Lihyot – an educational center in the city, dedicated to the memory of the Holocaust. Together, they worked on a special project, in which ninth-graders were divided into groups. Each group received a photo from Bet Lihyot, and researched the story behind that photo.
At the end of the project, each group restored the photos, using accessories similar to the original ones.
Through this unusual experience, the young students learned a lot about the Holocaust from Bet Lihyot, and met a Holocaust survivor who told them about her/his own experiences.
