A good service for Israel and for public opinion about it: a successful and exciting visit by a delegation of youth from Navon Gymnasium, which went to represent Holon and Israel in Holon’s sister city in Germany, Hann. Münden, has concluded. During 10 full days of activities and experiences led by the teachers Ofra Natan and Rivka Shmuel, Holon’s pupils met with Hann. Münden’s pupils and created unmediated, experiential and enjoyable connections with them.
The special atmosphere of the visit, in which the youth from Holon and from Hann. Münden stayed together in an ancient building in the city that has been converted into a youth hostel, contributed to the success of the visit. The youngsters from the two cities spent time together, had joint activities and also got to know one another in less formal moments. In the shared play area, the Israelis taught their German hosts about the experiences and way of life of youth in Israel, in part when they played “treasure hunt” and “pass the parcel” together. They also prepared their meals together in a shared kitchen and thus learned about typical styles and tastes.
During their stay in Germany, the Israelis went on tours in the pretty sister city, were impressed by the ancient parts of the city, and met the mayor, Harald Wegener. They also traveled to the neighboring cities, Kassel and Göttingen, where they toured the Jewish quarter, among other places.
The shared stay and experiences brought the children closer together. Towards the end of the visit they held a farewell party and gathered for a joint photo, which will remain as a sweet and special memento – and who knows, maybe they will meet again.
