עו"ד חיים שרון
Years: 1987-1989

Haim Sharabi (Sharon) was born in 1925 in Sana, the capital of Yemen. He studied in a heder (a traditional religious school for young boys) and at the age of seven rode with his parents and their six other siblings on donkeys, over impassable roads, to the port of Aden. From there, the family made their way by ship to the Suez Canal and then to Jaffa. His family was among the first to settle in the Shechunat Am neighborhood in Holon. He began to work in agriculture and in various factories, was among the first members of Hapoel, and played the tuba in the city's first brass band.

Sharon was a member of the Haganah and was arrested by the British on the “Black Sabbath” (June 29, 1946). During the War of Independence, he fought in Holon and in the Negev Brigade of the Palmach. Later he joined the General Security Service, studied law, received a law diploma, and became an active, familiar figure in the city. From the late 1960’s, Sharon served in various municipal capacities. Beginning in 1983, he substituted for Mayor Pinhas Eylon and replaced him from 1987 to 1989 after Eylon’s death. In his short term in office, Sharon began the renovation of Yad Labanim, the erection of the soccer stadium in Kiryat Hasport, and the establishment of the Council of Voluntary Organizations. Today he is a voluntary advisor to public organizations and active in “A’aleh Betamar,” a foundation fostering the heritage of Yemenite Jewry. He has recently written and published a book, “From Time to Time – True Stories.” Haim Sharon and his family continue to reside in Holon.
